Minor League Mini Camp

I'm sure you all notice that there were very few Non-Roster invitees this Spring. But these following pitchers where brought in on the 14th of February to a Mini Camp at the minor league facility. These guys where told that they will be up and down all Spring to pitch in games when needed.

Brian Anderson
Chris Begg
Garrett Broshuis
Manny Cabeza
Manny Cividanes
Adam Cowart
Steve Edlefsen
Geno Espineli
Kevin Gryboski
Alex Hinshaw
Waldis Joaquin
Julio Mateo
Matt Palmer
Joe Paterson
Nick Pereira
Kevin Pucetas
Wilmin Rodriguez
Sergio Romo
Ryan Sadowski
Jose Valdez
Orlando Yntema

As you can see theyre a few guys who didn't pitch last year that are put in the mini camp to get work in like Yntema and Cabeza. Manny Cividanes worked the whole summer on pitching, he was a can't hit outfielder. They brought him in early to work on that. He throws a fastball, slider and change. His fastball is in the low 90s. Merkin's cousin, Jose, is here to probably get his head screwed on. Also you might notice Julio Mateo and Kevin Gryboski, they where signed as minor league free agents.

The catchers brought in to catch for them are the following:

Michael Ambort
Matt Klimas
Trent Kline
Nestor Rojas
Adam Witter

Today a slew of young position players are set to report to the mini camp. Here's the list:

Charlie Culberson
Andy D'Alessio
Andrew Davis
Simon Klink
David Maroul
Evan McArthur
Mark Minicozzi
Nick Noonan
Brett Pill
Ryan Rohlinger
Angel Villalona
Jake Wald

Garrett Baker
Casey Bond
Wendell Fairley
Bobby Felmy
Mike Loberg
EME
Antoan Richardson
James Simmons
Carlos Sosa

Few of these guys have been here early taking groundballs and BP. That would be Klink, McArthur, Minicozzi and Wald. McArthur has been at 3rd. Out that group Baker and Loberg are the only outfielders that were early. Loberg is catching flyballs but not going all out. He's still wearing a brace on his knee. Another kid who has been here early is Thomas Neal. He is 100% and is in great shape. He's been staying with Burriss.

The rest of the minor leaguers will report on the 26th and 28th of February.

What? No Sosa, Alderson or Bumgarner in Mini-camp?

Phil- I'm looking forward to hearing your reports on who looks good and who doesn't down in Scottsdale this spring.

Just sayin'

Yup, they are at Indian School. As of now they are practicing from 9am to 11:30am then 6 pitchers head down to the big league camp to go shag in the outfield. Lately it's been Anderson, Cowart, Espineli, Hinshaw, Pereira and Romo taking the trip.

Like Lincecum... Sosa, Alderson and Bumgarner are shut down as long as possible. They each pitched in Insturct League so it's no surprise they have 'em come in on the 26th. You might also notice Bucardo, Snyder and Tanner will be arriving on the 26th also.

Yesteray, Garrett Baker and Thomas Neal put on a show in BP. Baker was hitting bombs into the trees behind the left field fence and Neal was ripping everything. I think Baker could be a huge sleeper.

Jesse Foppert is on the roster and is expected to be here on the 26th also. And here are the guys who vol. retired.

Ben Nieto
Bruce Edwards
Adam Paul
John White

Baker definitely had the kind of season that could push him to San Jose. I expect to see Neal in [sign in to see URL] to hear that he's healed.

I had thought that Ben Nieto retired last season? I'm a little shocked that Bruce Edwards is retired so soon (2007 draftee).

Phil, I just got my creds for when I'll be down in Arizona in late March. If you're around, I'll have to say hey.

Tried to get Baker's jersey at the auction last year but his mom put in a bid and it's considered bad form to bid against moms. Nice kid-nice family.

Tried to get Rothford's jersey as well as it was the only 3X available to fit you-know-who. Same [sign in to see URL] bid on it.

Volcanoes new web page is up and running and is much better than before.

Definately Brute. You should find me easily, I'm usually chatting it up with Sergio Romo before and after practice.

I asked Chad if he was lineman in high school, he actually was a tightend. I bet he was a beast in the Red Zone.

Interesting news...

Bring on job competition

Right-hander Henry Sosa, one of the most promising pitchers in the Giants system, had surgery after last season to repair a torn patella tendon in his left knee. Sosa is throwing, but he will not take part in the organization's minor league mini-camp, trainer Dave Groeschner said. If all goes well, Sosa could be cleared to compete in mid-April. Sosa was the Giants' World Team representative in the All-Star Futures Game last July.

When did Sosa have surgery? I was a little confused from the couple articles I read. One made it sound like it just happened and the other made is sound like it was at the end of the season.

Not surprised that Chad was a TE!
