Schilling possibly out for the season....
We should offer Jonathon Sanchez for Jed Lowrie or Jacoby Ellsbury...
Schilling Has Serious Shoulder Injury
According to the Boston Herald, Curt Schilling has a possibly season-ending shoulder injury (perhaps a torn rotator cuff or labrum). Schilling's career in general seems in jeopardy, in my opinion.
The Herald report says the Red Sox have already explored whether they can void Schilling's $8MM contract, and it's created a conflict between the team and Schilling. It's unknown whether the Red Sox missed the injury in his physical (seems unlikely) or if it happened since then.
With Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester, Wakefield, and Buchholz, the Red Sox do have the depth to sustain this injury. But a solid sixth man other than Julian Tavarez would be nice. I don't see the free agent market offering much in terms of a mid-rotation addition.

Redsox would be fools to give up Ellsbury for Sanchez, especially with hte over stock of arms they have already.

"torn rotator cuff or labrum"?
damnit.
I was hoping to hear "torn aorta, or jugular vein."

I agree that is Ellsbury wouldn't go anywhere.
But even with Bucholz coming up and likely to take Schilling's spot, it might not be a bad idea to touch on the Sox, to see if they'd be interested in a Sanchez-type. Bucholz was more intended to be the backup scenario for Tim Wakefield. The Red Sox have reportedly been shopping both Lars Anderson (1B likely to be in High-A) and Jed Lowrie (SS likely to be in Triple-A). Both are currently blocked, and Lowrie in particular would be an intriguing addition.
Nothing may come of it, but it wouldn't hurt to ask the Red Sox what's up.
Why not Lowry for both of them? I could see Lowrie starting in AAA this year with a late season call up and Anderson giving needed competition to Pill and D'alessio in the Giants system. In particular I like the power potential that Lars Anderson has coupled with the strong walk rate.
I noticed too that Lars Anderson is from Oakland and Lowrie is from Oregon but went to Stanford. Could be a "homecoming" of sorts for both players.
I know Sabean said he wants guys that can contribute "today" but these are the type of deals that you start to re-build around.
By the way, does anybody know if Lowrie has ever played any third base?
Just sayin'

Shilling has a torn labia? Are we going to see Teh Bloody Pants in this year's WS, if the Sox are there?

The organization that hired Voros McCracken trading value for a pitcher with a K:BB ratio of 1?
It's about as likely as Sabean trading a tired old vet for a promising young prospect.
