Dodgers | Schmidt may not be ready for spring training
Mon, 28 Jan 2008 23:05:03 -0800

Al Balderas, of the Orange County Register, reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Jason Schmidt (shoulder) is progressing in his recovery, but he may not be ready for spring training. Although he has been throwing approximately 110 pitches per day, he didn't begin throwing from a mound until last week. Dodgers head trainer Stan Conte noted that Schmidt has not had any setbacks in his rehab but has a lot of work to do in order to be ready to compete. Conte is scheduled to meet with Schmidt in Arizona a week before pitchers and catchers report. The trainer said that a determination will be made based on the condition of Schmidt's shoulder, not a reporting date.

Ken Gurnick, of [sign in to see URL], reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Jason Schmidt (shoulder) is a candidate for the team's fifth starter job this season.

what more can u ask for that he went from #1 to #[sign in to see URL] know anyone that's a PT? that way we can get him on the wrong side of recovery?

Hamels started toward the dugout after what he thought was a strike. Lincecum didn't get the call & buzzed ump Dana DeMuth w. a fastball that slammed off the backstop & then froze Hamels w. another 3rd strike. 4/28/10 Timmy the ump killer.

Yes but only for a couple of seasons -- Brian signed a $20 Million number 5 for 7 seasons -- thanks Brian and Peter.

It's funny how the Giants got killed in the media for the Zito contract (not that it wasn't warranted), but everyone was tugging Ned's wang over getting such a deal on Schmidt. I think most Giants fans new he had nothing left in the tank. I would have though Stan Conte would have realized that.

well, let's not shave numbers on one end and add on the other.
Zito averages 18 million a year, not 20

and Schmidt's contact is three years and 47 million.

He went 1-4 with a [sign in to see URL] ERA in six starts.

So right now he is averaging 47 million dollars a win for the Bums. (or almost 12 million per loss if you prefer)

That has to make you smile, at least a little..

I meant there was just a couple of years to go on Schmidt's K -- I should have said six more seasons for Zito.

As Giants fans the consensus was not to re-sign Schmidt because he had lost 4-5 MPH in velocity -- clearly a bad signing by the Dodgers, but that certainly does not make the Zito signing any better.

I just never have understood how the Dodgers gave him that [sign in to see URL] Giants fan knew he had been breaking down over the last 3 [sign in to see URL] Ned was a little removed, but Conte was there first hand. I have no idea how they could have taken that chance with how much they knew.

Just furthers my belief that Conte is the worst trainer out [sign in to see URL] much have our injuries & time of recovery gone down since he left?

Are there not moles for every team, working in every park, who keep this kind of information fresh to the people who need to hear it?

yes but in this case, the mole was actually a Giant rat,

and he passed out drunk and missed the boat on Schmidt.
