Re: Johan to the Mutts

I wouldn't disagree that they could have gotten more talent from the Red Sux or Yankees, but again, I don't think they had any intention of trading him to an AL team. And the Mets package, while not overwhelming, isn't too bad.

The fun thing is, Johan for 6 years 150 or Zito for 7 years 126?
$18 mil for Zito or $25 mil for Johan?

If I am spending $18+ million on a pitcher, I am wanting Johan.

Sabean, what a bastard

Sabean signing Zito to that mistake of a contract was payback for the AJ trade.
He knew that if Zito was getting 18+, then Johan would get 20+ and there would be no way the Twins could keep him.
Brilliant Machiavellian move by the brain dead GM.

after the intial rush of offers when he was made available i dont think the red sox offer was really genuine. just a plot to get the yanks give up more. hughes and co would of been better for the twins, a team like that cant worry about who they trade him to, just what they get in return.

Although you might be right, that his a very foolish mindset in this day and age. I would hope that wasn't Twins motivation for taking a lesser package from the Mets.

I definitely would've taken one of the reported Yankees offers over the Mets package from a rebuilding perspective.

But yea, I'd rather pay the money than the prospects, but the Mets are going to have to pay both!

!@#$ me, I really didn't want to see Santana in the NL. But then again, better than going to the sawks or the yanks... and we only play the mets 1 or 2 series' a season.

I don't really agree with the rich get richer B.S. Let's not kid pourselves here. Don't feel sorry for the Twins or any "small market" franchise for that matter. With revenue sharing, these small market teams get a good chunk of money from the big market teams, a lot of these small market owners choose to pocket the money instead of reinvesting it into the team. Up until recently when they signed Cuddyer, and Morneau, Pohlan was one of the cheapest bastards around.... despite the fact that he is one of the richest men around. I hear owners !@#$ and whine sometimes how unfair it is, well that is a load of horse !@#$. Yeah most owners don't have as deep of pockets like the New York teams, or Boston, but they have money, they just choose not to spend it, or spend it wisely. That's just the way the landscape of sports is today. Props to the Mets for getting him.

Even solidifies the Tigers' prospects even more for a Divisional Championship.
