Where have you read that? OBP is for p-ssies. Men don't get on base. Men do "all the little things." They use speed and defense to score and prevent runs. Out-pitch. You don't score runs by getting on base. You score by giving away outs and filling your lineup with average to below average hitters who swing their way onto base. The Giants haven't committed to this plan of having people on base. They don't believe in it. They don't understand it. Everybody else is doing it, and the Giants don't do what other teams do (even though they think they're trying to copy the Padres) because they are leaders, not followers. I'm sorry... I'm just now realizing that I can't post in these threads without using the same rhetoric again and again. I find the Giants to be a running joke but, like a stump speech or standup routine, the jokes don't really change from day-to-day. Ugh. The Mercury News reports that the Giants will monitor Joe Crede this spring, and if healthy, there's a "good chance" they could acquire him for a pitcher. Crede is about as good as the Giants can hope to do at third base, though they're likely finishing in last place in 2008 whether they get him or take a chance on someone like Dallas McPherson. Morgan Ensberg would also be a nice alternative. If they trade for Crede, the deal could involve Noah Lowry or maybe Jonathan Sanchez. The White Sox no longer have much need for bullpen help.nondisclosed_email@example.com (bayareasportsfan755)Fri, 25 Jan 2008 22:24:25 +0000 Re: Cain for Crede?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452682,from=rss#post452682https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452682,from=rss#post452682quote:olddad wrote: quote:Sabean for Crede We'd have to pay big Won to make that trade fly! They absolutely shouldn't be doing BOTH! At the worst, Aurilia could play third. They could also play Frandsen there (since 3B was his spot in college, were his defense was considered strong). Heck, they could even call up McClain or Leone. If the Giants can't find somebody young with upside, they should just pass and keep what they have until they can trade for something better in July or Dec. (Personally, I'd rather the Giants took a shot with McPherson - but only if the contract were reasonable.) nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Fri, 25 Jan 2008 12:06:12 +0000 Re: Cain for Crede?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452654,from=rss#post452654https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452654,from=rss#post452654Sabean for Crede. nondisclosed_email@example.com (ARAS)Fri, 25 Jan 2008 10:16:42 +0000 Cain for Crede?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452652,from=rss#post452652https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452652,from=rss#post452652Considering that the Giants had a Rios deal on the table, which most around baseball felt was a steal for Toronto, how could anyone being paid to write about baseball, suggest a trade like Crede for Cain. Unfortunately it looks like the Sox farm system is really shallow since Williams make all these off season trades. However, if the Giants sent Lowry (or Correia) to the Sox for Crede, I'd be happy if the Giants also got Poreda (LHP out of USF) or Egbert (RHP) in the deal. Otherwise, it would just be the Giants overpaying once again and Sabean can't afford to do that with the limited talent that the organization has at the higher levels. So bring on Crede, but only in the "right" deal for the Giants. Crede for Cain would certainly be worse that DeLino for Pedro, considering DeShields was not injured and/or terrible! The pitcher in the deal isn't really of consequence to me.
