His big problem was that he wasn't consistent about it. Over a 5 or 6 game spread, he'd pitch OK once or twice or 3 times, he'd pitch really well once or twice, then he would melt in his 5th or 6th appearance. Then he'd start all over. $975K for a journeyman reliever that did as well as Chulk did last year is not outrageous. Unfortunately for Vinnie, the arb process looks at the last TWO years, and he sucked in 2006. Based on his inconsistency, I don't expect Chulk to do as well in 2008 as he did in '07. The problem is that there just isn't somebody ready to replace him. Our 2 best AAA relievers from 07 are no longer with the team.nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Wed, 23 Jan 2008 14:41:21 +0000 Re: …https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452548,from=rss#post452548https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452548,from=rss#post452548quote:Freshbreaker wrote: Chulk should be replaced by a minor leaguer. Why blow 4-6 hundred grand on a guy who hasn't proven he's any better than a AAAA pitcher. Seriously. What has the guy done? When we first picked him up he did well for a good 5-6 appearances, but has been pretty facking average since then. IMO he is not part of a winning bullpen, he's more of a "we need everyone we can get" type guy. Correia is fine at 1.3 as he has shown he can step in as a starter and give the team a chance to win, same for Hennessey who has had excellent moments in relief and some good starts in the rotation as well. They are worth keeping.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Freshbreaker)Wed, 23 Jan 2008 08:47:19 +0000 Re: players up for aribitration...https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452501,from=rss#post452501https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452501,from=rss#post452501Correia's going to win. If Hennessey gets $1.6, Kevin's easily worth $1.3. I recognize that's not really how arbitration hearings work, but it on its face $1.3 for him seems perfectly reasonable. And then later on in the season, the Giants can assume whatever's left of his contract when they trade for Geoff Blum. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Every6thDay)Mon, 21 Jan 2008 16:49:36 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452495,from=rss#post452495https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452495,from=rss#post452495When you see what Affelt and Tomko got, to me both of those request are not unreasonable.nondisclosed_email@example.com (JayWheels)Mon, 21 Jan 2008 16:13:49 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452494,from=rss#post452494https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452494,from=rss#post452494survive a year - it's called "inflation".nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Mon, 21 Jan 2008 16:04:32 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452492,from=rss#post452492https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452492,from=rss#post452492What did Chulk do to deserve a $325,000 raise?nondisclosed_email@example.com (KCDrummer82)Mon, 21 Jan 2008 15:20:34 +0000 Re: players up for aribitration...https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452438,from=rss#post452438https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p452438,from=rss#post452438quote:zito4cyyoung wrote: What we are offering Chulk is reasonable.
