players up for aribitration...

should we agree to these amounts from the players:

Updating previous reports, the San Francisco Giants are offering $725,000 to RP Vinnie Chulk in arbitration, while he is asking for $975,000, according to [sign in to see URL]. Chulk made $396,000 in 2007.

Updating previous reports, the San Francisco Giants are offering $850,000 to P Kevin Correia in arbitration, while he is asking for $1.3 million, according to [sign in to see URL]. Correia made $400,000 in 2007.
------

are those two worth the price they're asking??

-----------
The San Francisco Giants and RP Brad Hennessey have avoided arbitration, by agreeing to a one-year contract worth $1.6 million, according to the Associated Press.
-------

henny get a fair amount?

---
Hamels started toward the dugout after what he thought was a strike. Lincecum didn't get the call & buzzed ump Dana DeMuth w. a fastball that slammed off the backstop & then froze Hamels w. another 3rd strike. 4/28/10 Timmy the ump killer.

What we are offering Chulk is reasonable. He is a mid-reliever. Not a setup or closer.

Corriea has a better chance at winning arbitration because he will most likely be our 5th starter.

[sign in to see URL] how much they're asking [sign in to see URL] if corriea isn't a starter then we over paid for a reliever

What did Chulk do to deserve a $325,000 raise?

survive a year - it's called "inflation".

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

When you see what Affelt and Tomko got, to me both of those request are not unreasonable.

Correia's going to win. If Hennessey gets $1.6, Kevin's easily worth $1.3. I recognize that's not really how arbitration hearings work, but it on its face $1.3 for him seems perfectly reasonable. And then later on in the season, the Giants can assume whatever's left of his contract when they trade for Geoff Blum.

Chulk should be replaced by a minor leaguer. Why blow 4-6 hundred grand on a guy who hasn't proven he's any better than a AAAA pitcher.

Correia is fine at 1.3 as he has shown he can step in as a starter and give the team a chance to win, same for Hennessey who has had excellent moments in relief and some good starts in the rotation as well. They are worth keeping.

Seriously. What has the guy done? When we first picked him up he did well for a good 5-6 appearances, but has been pretty facking average since then. IMO he is not part of a winning bullpen, he's more of a "we need everyone we can get" type guy. Play teh kids.

Chulk did not do poorly last year - in fact he pitched pretty well. His big problem was that he wasn't consistent about it. Over a 5 or 6 game spread, he'd pitch OK once or twice or 3 times, he'd pitch really well once or twice, then he would melt in his 5th or 6th appearance. Then he'd start all over.

$975K for a journeyman reliever that did as well as Chulk did last year is not outrageous. Unfortunately for Vinnie, the arb process looks at the last TWO years, and he sucked in 2006.

Based on his inconsistency, I don't expect Chulk to do as well in 2008 as he did in '07. The problem is that there just isn't somebody ready to replace him. Our 2 best AAA relievers from 07 are no longer with the team.
