San Diego looking for corner OF

This is something I have noticed for a while now, MarcoPolo666 may just be the most negative and rude person that I have ever read lecture someone on a message board. For goodness sakes, he jumps all over someone for just proposing an idea that maybe makes sense to them and even his signature is mean. Marco, you just seems like a really angry person and I hope that you don't do anything too rash during this upcoming season.

Go Giants, even if Fred Lewis is patrolling LF.

Lewis appeared lazy to me last year. If you're Bonds you can get away with trotting down to first on a ground ball, but to see this in a rookie callup is crap. He may have got reamed out from time to time for this.

Well, based on what the team has, of *course* I'm negative.

In terms of rude, please explain how the following is rude :

I don't care WHY he's a poor defender - he is. And it's not like he has just 2 years of baseball under his belt. He was drafted in '02, and played baseball in HS and college, and he has 6 years of pro ball under his belt.

His defense sucks, and his offense isn't that great. He had a couple of absolutely fantastic games, which hyper-inflated his SLG (which isn't all that high to start with). Yes, he's patient at the plate, and has a high OBP. But unless he learns to field his position, he's a waste of space - it's not like he's ever hit 30 or 40 HRs in a season. If you hit like Manny R, you can suck in the field - otherwise, you better play at least average OF.

I'm not trying to be argumentative in this post, I just don't think it's "rude", and I'd like to understand why you do (if you do).

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

The top 5 teams in the Giants system had managers who had won 'Manager of the Year Awards' within the past three years, including the guy that Lewis played for in San Jose (Lenn Sakata) and the guy Lewis was playing for in Fresno (Dan Rohn).

You can't squeeze orange juice from a rock. If Lewis isn't willing to work, then no one's going to be able make him do it.

I was actually bored enough to check your facts, and while technically true, you forgot to mention that there's like a dozen different minor league manager of the year awards handed out every year. One by each league at each level as well as awards from Baseball America and The Sporting News. I'm also skeptical as to whether they are handed out to managers who are good at developing talent or just winning managers of winning teams.

Use a manager's work to justify his awards, not vice-versa. "This coach won an award because of X,Y,Z," not "X,Y and Z aren't his fault, he won an award!"

I still contend that good coaching will bring the best out of a player. You don't throw a young player into a deal just becuase you don't like his attitude. You don't trade Francisco Liriano in a deal simply because you don't like his attitude. Oh [sign in to see URL] Giants did exactly that.

I'm not saying that Lewis has the comparable talent that Liriano has but Lewis does have speed and a decent arm, two things you can't teach. And the kid did hit for the cycle last year for crying out loud. I think you got to give the kid a chance this year before you simply ship him out of town because quote, "he won't learn". Again, maybe the organization just hasn't found the "right" player or coach to get through to him. Who's fault is that? I do think the organization needs to really work on the "instruction" they are giving these kids down on the farm, especially the coaching they are giving to the position players.

Just sayin'

Thrill can you enunciate on that point? I was under the understanding that Liriano was traded b/c of medical concerns rather than makeup concerns...
