Re: San Diego looking for corner OF

Giants should try to get Luis Durango thrown in. He makes Davis look like Molina. 21 years old with no power at all. Has high SLG because swinging bunts become singles, singles become doubles, and doubles become triples. Someday he will provide extreme coverage in any center field in MLB.

just getting rid of his contract would be good enough at this point.

If I'm the Giants, I'd be willing to pay a large chunk of his contract if it meant the Giants could get one of the players that I mentioned and to make room in the outfield for the "kids".

Just sayin'

I am really interested to see what Lewis can do. I know Brute talks him down all the time but I like his athletic ability. He just isn't as baseball experienced as he needs to be at his age but I like some of the tools that I've seen from him so far. Above all I like his attitude.

The only thing I want to see from Rajai is a strong OBP. I don't care how he does it but if he's going to stick at this level he needs to just prove that he can get on base, possibly as a leadoff hitter.

Just sayin'

I saw Lewis play 6 or 7 times last year. And by "saw" I mean "went to a game at the park", and NOT "watched game on TV".

Lewis made *at least* one defensive mistake in each game, generally two or more. What you can't understand if you've just seen him on TV is that he is a horrible defensive player. He is literally one of the worst defensive OF I have seen play for the Giants - ever. Yes, at least as bad as D Hamilton or Alex Sanchez. What you don't see on TV are the *horrible* routes that Lewis takes to the ball, or the *really bad* reads as the ball leaves the bat (as in - breaks in 2 or even THREE steps before turning around and running like crazy just to get to the ball). Some of the plays that look fantastic (running all out to get to the ball, catching over the shoulder at a dead run) only happen because he has no idea where the ball is going for the first couple of seconds - a good OF would have made the catches look routine.

Hopefully the Giants can quickly trade him based on his over-inflated "power" stats of last year (massively inflated by just 3 excellent games, IIRC), and his speed. I'd trade him for a decent AA IF prospect.

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

yes lewis sucks in the outfield but he should be ok in leftfield for the time being. i really believe lewis can be a good hitter in the big leagues. i like his patience and hitting upside. lewis's defense sucks because he was part time baseball player and fulltime football player as a youth. hes one of those guys who started late and never got those defensive instincts.

Maybe the Giants are partly to blame for Lewis' poor defense? I mean he certainly seems to have the athletic ability to play in the outfield. He seems to have a good arm and you can't teach speed. Maybe if he could have gotten some better coaching in the minors he'd be looking a lot better out there today?

I say give the kid a chance before you write him off or ship him out of town. Like I said, I like his attitude and he does have some talent. It's up to the Giants to get it out of him!

I don't care WHY he's a poor defender - he is. And it's not like he has just 2 years of baseball under his belt. He was drafted in '02, and played baseball in HS and college, and he has 6 years of pro ball under his belt.

His defense sucks, and his offense isn't that great. He had a couple of absolutely fantastic games, which hyper-inflated his SLG (which isn't all that high to start with). Yes, he's patient at the plate, and has a high OBP. But unless he learns to field his position, he's a waste of space - it's not like he's ever hit 30 or 40 HRs in a season. If you hit like Manny R, you can suck in the field - otherwise, you better play at least average OF.

I like Winn, but not for what he is getting paid, if we can get a team to take his whole contract, I don't care what we get back. This would accomplish two things, moving a bad contract and opening a spot for Sheirholtz. This would be a move in the right direction.

I'd rather pay the entirety of Winn's contract and get a decent prospect back than trade Winn just to move the money. I have zero faith in the Giants getting better value on the FA market. As for the AB's, I'm just not that high on Lewis and Davis.
