San Diego looking for corner OF

According to [sign in to see URL], Kevin Towers spoke to [sign in to see URL] today and twice said the Padres are looking for a corner OF. MLBTR mentions Winn as a possibility, with others. Would the Padres consider him, and would the Giants be smart enough to trade him to the Padres and not use the whole inside the division trade crap?

Yes, the Giant would be smart enough to trade Winn. Unfortunately, they'd trade him for a mediocre reliever whose impressive ERA was entirely a product of Petco Park. Sadly, that impressive ERA would induce the team to cover most of Winn's contract. Even more sadly, said reliever would remain the Giants' closer into July as Sabean refuses to admit his error and vainly waits for him to turn it around.

just getting rid of his contract would be good enough at this point.

And spend it on what? No reason to move him unless we get something worthwhile back.

what do the giants have to gain by keeping a winn? we know their going to suck this year, i rather see then suck with the fred lewis's of the world. who knows maybe they'll spend that cash next offseason but they havent exactly made very good fa moves the past 5 years.

Just because Winn's about as useful as udders on a bull doesn't mean the team should give him away. He has some trade value, there's no reason not to exploit it. Trade him for nothing and the Giants are telling every other GM in baseball that they're a pack of howling morons willing to be bent over the trade table, any serious trade offers will dry up in favor of tripe like Rios for Lincecum. At some point, you have to take a hard line if you want to get value.

i disagree, he has no trade value. if a sucker comes by and is willing to take his contract you give him away for peanuts just like with matt morris.

I like Randy Winn and think he gets a bad wrap. The problem with him is that he is a very streaky hitter.

My question is, could Sabean trade Winn for someone like Kevin Kouzmanoff or Chase Headley and fill our void at third, then I say do it. Other guys I'd be interested in are Mitch Canham (who I wish Sabean had drafted this year) or Will Inman, who could make it a little easier to think about trading Lincecum.

The Giants have a logjam in the outfield. While most believe that this logjam is filled with fourth outfielders, the only way to find out it by letting them play. I really want to see what Schierholtz, Lewis and Davis can do this year. That is going to be a lot tougher if Winn and/or Roberts is on the team. Plus, it's looking more and more like if the Giants do acquire an "impact" bat, that it will be an outfielder not an infielder. All the better reason to trade Winn and hopefully Roberts too.

Just don't trade Winn for a reliever. IMO he has more value than that.

I got this idea that Sabean is just waiting. Waiting for all the other teams to make their moves and then towards the beginging of ST, he is going to make a series of moves to re-shape the lineup and rotation. I just got a hunch.

Just sayin'

I like Winn, but not for what he is getting paid, if we can get a team to take his whole contract, I don't care what we get back. This would accomplish two things, moving a bad contract and opening a spot for Sheirholtz. This would be a move in the right direction.
