Congress and the SF Giants
Congress is meeting with Selig and Fehr today and chairman Waxman is specifically bringing up Sabean's lack of involvement in the issue.
Earlier Selig said that he is looking at severe penalties for club personnel for their actions or non-actions.
Could Sabean be the target of Selig's disciplinary actions? Could our wonderful GM be fined or suspended? Selig says that he has the matter under review.
Sabean better be nervous. Could be some Selig wrath coming his way, especially if Selig is feeling pressure from Congress.
The NFL fined the Pat's $250,000 and a FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK for "spygate". I sure hope that Selig doesn't use this NFL fine as an analog as to administering punishment for Sabean not doing anything in regards to what Stan Conte reported to him as to what was going on in the clubhouse.
This could get really ugly for Sabean and the Giants, really fast.
Just sayin'

And the Giants respond to today's hearings.

I've got my fingers crossed that Sabean purjurs himself.
Do the right thing, Pete! Can Brian!

Re: Congress and the SF Giants
Like many I have been extremely unhappy with almost all of Brian Sabean's personnel decisions over the last 4 or 5 years. But what did most of you want or expect him to do in his situation? Be the only person to out a suspected steroid user and lose all credibility in the clubhouse and front office and alienate the person most responsible for the success of the Giants during their nice run a few years back? Selig is the one who should be receiving the bulk of the negative attention. And it is pretty convenient for him not to back Sabean and to let him get run over. Sabean deserves the blame for a lot of things but how some here and in congress can try and pin this on him is border line ridiculous.

I have to agree Toolrulzz. Sabean outing a steroid user wouldn't be the brightest move either for his career or for the perception of the Franchise among players (even if you're a clean player, you don't want to work for a team acting like big brother, Everyone's got a couple skeletons/mistresses in their closet). At the very least, he'd be alienating one of his favorite FA pools: old guys looking for one last big contract.

Re: Congress and the SF Giants
Lol, you definitely wouldn't want to alienate the 35 and over "savvy veteran" club. I just don't get how Sabean is the only GM, at least that I have heard of, getting heat over all of this. I don't know if it makes everyone feel better to put a name to the problem or if congress just can't resist the Bonds connection. I doubt Sabean being thrown under the bus is going to make Barry sing all of a sudden. The whole thing is just about political grandstanding and it just all feels slimy.
