Does Sabean have any original ideas left?

I think that signing Zito to a 7 year, $126M contract is still the worst idea ever.

No trading a young live arm like Accardo to the Jays for Chulk and Shea Hey was a bimbo of a move.
Oh and then there was that AJ deal.....
Just sayin'

Well, then bringing Shea back has to be the worst. Hillenbrand is a known clubhouse cancer (like AJ). At least Zito is a nice guy.

Shea Hey Part Deux
Right- paying a "nice guy" the most ever given to a pitcher, for a #3 starter's performance (and I'm being generous calling him a #3) for SEVEN fackin' years isn't the worst move ever? In what universe?
Although I suppose he might (should) improve in 2008 to the average of his last 4 years performance - a decent, middle-of-the-pack #2. Yeah, giving him a 7 year, $18M/per contract is STILL the worst-ever move.

"Accardo to the Jays for Chulk and Shea Hey" was definitely a bad move. Nathan and 2 others for a cancer was a worse move. But still, 7 years of #2 pitching (if we are LUCKY) for the highest-ever contract given to a pitcher takes the cake. Worst move EVER. Did I mention the SEVEN YEARS that this will screw the team?

If Zito pitches like he did the last half of the season, then the contract will be a "little" easier to swallow. But if he continues to decline and pitches like he did at the first of last season, watchout! Worst contract EVER, indeed.
Why is it I check the headlines everyday in anticipation of Sabean dropping the other shoe? Why am I shocked that he hasn't signed Sweeney to a three year, $8 million per year deal yet? Ughhhhh.

Look on the bright side: if he continues to pitch like he did in the first half, he'll probably end up eating a line drive or ten.

If Sabean is resorting to Hillenbrand again, then so much for the rebuild.
