Hamilton traded.....
Looks like Hamilton has been traded to the Rangers for pitcher Edison Volquez and a PTBNL.
sorry, no link.
Too bad, I think Hamilton would have been a good fit for the Giants.
Just sayin'

Re: Hamilton traded.....
this trade pisses me off more than any other lack of SF activity this offseason.
We couldnt make a better offer for Hamilton than TX made than this schmoe?

don;t make sound like Hamilton was traded for trash.
The volquez has great stuff and had more then 1so per ip.
While lowery is more establish, this volquez has much better stuff and is younger.
His only blemish is his attitude and work ethic.

Volquez's control isn't good though. He probably ends up as a solid reliever. Josh Hamilton could be great if he continues to keep his head straight.

In his 80 IP in the majors, he has never had a K/IP. *never*. His MLB average is 6.19 K/9; Lowry's is 6.11.
Yes, Volquez had success in the minors. But if minor league performance (or even AAA perf) was anywhere close to players' major league numbers, we would have a stellar team with Niekro at 1B, Ellison in CF and Todd Linden in LF.
The Giants should have been able to get Hamilton with Lowry and some toss-in. If Sabean even tried. It would have been nice to see JH at 3B next year for the Giants.

--- Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Re: Hamilton traded.....
JH at 3B?
Isn't he a RF?
Sabean shoulda done a Lowry+Winn for JH+Ed.Encarncion
whatever happened to the creative Sabean?

Re: Hamilton traded.....
I have seen that Volquez has some serious control issues. His ERA in the limited MLB time has also been pretty bad. Read somewhere (wasn't an actualy scouting report) that the other player throws low 80's fastball, but has a good change and slider or something. Not sure if that is true, but it seems like the Giants could have matched this or done better.
I thought Hamilton played CF for the Reds. Is he naturally a RF?
Oh and I don't think the Reds would be interested in Winn. They already have Griffey, Dunn and Freel. I think they traded away Hamilton to make room for Bruce.

Danny Herrera is the other piece. He was a late 2nd day pick in the 06 draft.
He's not a power pitcher but I heard he throws a good screwball. Not sure how it will fly at the higher levels.
