Orlando Hudson...
Seems like the D'backs are willing to let him walk as a FA at the end of '08.
Wonder if we could work out a trade pending his signing an extension with us.
D'backs do like Lowry and 2B is open next year with Ray's 7.5 mill coming off the books.

I'm not crazy about him. He's not going to do much for this lineup this year. And he's available next year.

I swear I didn't log in under another user's name and post "don't trade for somebody who will be a FA next year".
I *swear* - it wasn't me.
--- Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Why sign a second baseman when the Giants already got too many middle infielder types already? I would be happy to see the Giants give Frandsen and/or Velez a shot at second base this year and in 09. And with guys like Noonan, B o c ock, and Sanders in the organization, second base looks to be the one position that the team will eventually fill via the organization first. Whereas catcher, third base and first base seem like bigger question marks for the future.
Just sayin'

Hence "pending him signing an extension"
That way we could possibly get him with out OVERPAYING for FA's (See Zito/Rowand signing)

I'd rather see Frandsen at 2nd.

Re: Orlando Hudson...
My problems with Frandsen are 3 fold:
1. He has no range
2. He has the Ray Durham "Double Play" disease
3. He is no more than a Utility guy
If we could get rid of Ray, then all good. Let him have 2B this year in hopes Eugenio's glove can develop at 2B.

I think the judgement on Frandsen has closed to soon. I still think there is a lot he still hasn't shown us. It would be like judging Robby Thompson on 50 starts. Robby won the job in ST and they could afford to play him b/c the team stunk and they had no other options...which is pretty much where the Giants are today...except we have a management in place that does not know the meaning of..."rebuild"...or "get younger".
Throw Frandsen out there and see what he can do...start him everday...at the same position...hitting in the same spot in the lineup...AND LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
But then again...the Giants don't evaluate...they just admire from afar...kick tires.
