How about Sean Casey for 1B?
Always been a good high average hitter who doesn't strike out a lot and can probably be signed for less than $5 million.
Would be a good fit in a lineup with a lot of speed at the top and which is focused on putting the ball in play rather than trying to hit the ball into McCovey Cove.

Re: How about Sean Casey for 1B?
I sense that the rest of you are less than enthusiastic!
My thinking is that we need to build a lineup around speed and batting average.
Casey is a career .301 hitter, rarely strikes out (less than once every 10 AB), and is supposed to be great in the clubhouse.
Given that out only alternative right now is Ortmeier, we could do a lot worse.

Batting average is such an antiquated stat. OBP, SLG, OPS are much more telling of level of play, though Casey does have a decent OBP, his SLG is very low especially for a 1B. If his OBP was over .400 and he had a higher pitch/AB then he would be a good #2 hitter, but we have those. I would much prefer playing Ortmeier.
1 - High OBP, High Pitch/AB, Speed
2 - High OBP, High Pitch/AB, good situational hitter
3 - High OBP, High SLG, Best Hitter
4 - High SLG, High FL/GR ratio
5 - High SLG
6 - Good SLG, Good OBP
7 - Developemental player
8 - good OBP

mfw13, Just a heads up...your opinions mean zilch here. Most of the posters here follow eachother around stroking themselves with their brilliant ideas. They think they can do a better job than the GM. You might as well do what I do, just come here for any Giants news or small signings, but unless your in the "club" dont post anything.

I'm sure you could as well. I bet the boobies in BarrysBoy's avatar could do a better job.

Just about anyone could be a better GM than Sabean. I mean just look at the $88 million line up he will be putting out there next season.

Please no Casey. I'd rather see what Ortmeier can do. Plus the team already has too much money tied up in Aurilia, another guy that can hardly run to first base like Casey.
Just sayin'
