I understand what you're [sign in to see URL]. There are players who's range is so good they get to balls no one else would and as a result pick up extra errors. Adam Everett comes to mind...

but do you really believe Wright's range created errors? really? Do you really believe Wright plays a better 3B than Feliz, Chipper Jones, Garret Atkins or Aramis Ramirez?

Gold Glove awards are clearly a joke as proven by this years winners (Wright and Rollins).

The bottom line is Sabean doesn't have a ton of faith in Shierholtz. If he did, he wouldn't have signed Rowand and I don't blame Sabean for doing so.

That would be a good move. Shierholtz has more upside than Lewis in my opinion.

When was the last time Sabean handed a player (pitcher or Positional) a starting job at the begining of the season.

Not Jerome Williams
Not Noah Lowry
Not Matt Cain
Not Tim Lincecum

I don't think it has ever happened. All the players above go their chance from the player in front of them getting hurt. They actually went out and signed a 126 million dollar albatross because they didn't have faith in their pitching in the Minors, heck He didn't have faith in Matt Cain being the Ace so they didn't even just go out and pay for a #2 or #3 they went out and paid Ace money. I have 0 faith in Sabean to be able to judge talent at the Major League Level.

I'm guessing you mean a 'homegrown' player.

One could argue that Lance Niekro was handed the first baseman's job in 2006. The team only had noted pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney on the roster to oppose him at [sign in to see URL] when Sweeney started getting starts in '06, it was in left field. But Niekro had played a number of games in 2005.

Behind that, I'd say that Ainsworth in 2003 was the last guy to get handed a starting job with minimal previous playing time.

Wright does not have the best range, but he does hustle like a mad man that makes him go after balls a little out of control.

I do remember him having a throwing error to second base against the Giants.

Remember all the trips Matt Williams made to AAA Phoenix?

How about Linecum first start? They pitched him on a national TV game and he got belted pretty good.

It's never good to rush players too quickly. I rather ease them into a game slowly just to get their feet wet.

As far as Sabean being able to judge talent, I honestly believe he's just had a lot of bad luck over the last few years. No matter what he does, it just turns out bad. Should he take the blame? 100%.

What about Matt Cain? All he had was a Sep callup, only 7 appearances before his rookie season.

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Does ANYONE like the Aaron Rowand signing?

Technically, it was an August callup, but yea, he'd probably qualify too.
