Brad Eldred did pretty darn well in the minors (when not injured). Jose Garcia would be a great pickup for either AA or AAA. Mark Prior would be a great pickup ONLY if *really* cheap with an option for a 2nd year (which I think would mean signing him in late Jan or Feb if nobody else picks him up). nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Fri, 14 Dec 2007 09:57:36 +0000 Re: 2008 non-tendered listhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450778,from=rss#post450778https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450778,from=rss#post450778Definitely go after Dallas McPherson and maybe Mark Prior if the price isnt too high. He isnt worth a lot anymorenondisclosed_email@example.com (ultimategiantsfan)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 23:16:15 +0000 Re: 2008 non-tendered listhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450759,from=rss#post450759https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450759,from=rss#post450759Seems like a low risk high reward proposition. Prior need not be anything more than a 5th starter, even if he fails Correia or Sanchez could capably man that role. If he should rediscover his 03 form, imagine flipping him for some nice prospects ala what the Rangers did with Eric Gagne. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Avenge02)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 21:24:56 +0000 Re: 2008 non-tendered listhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450758,from=rss#post450758https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450758,from=rss#post450758All I am saying is that his stuff is much better than most of the pitchers the Giants have. I am talking about a one year deal, this is of course if he signs for a reasonable contract. If he doesn't have any problems then try and sign him for a 2-3 year deal. I said long term, but didn't mean 5+ years. I think he knows he will never get an actual long term contract for big bucks with the issues he has had. Or maybe the cheap multi-year deal loaded with incentives would be a good way to go. Maybe keeping him in the pen will put less strain on his arm. It isn't something we have to do, I just think it might be good to consider. Besides our pen wasn't very good las year. People like to blame the hitting, but the pen was pretty bad as well.nondisclosed_email@example.com (xxERICSMITHxx)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 21:13:34 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450757,from=rss#post450757https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450757,from=rss#post450757The cubs non-tendered him because : 1- The Cubs couldn't pay him less than 80% of last year's salary. The cubs paid him $3.575M in '07. 2- He will be a FA after the 2008 season. He didn't want to add any (reasonably priced) option years to a 2008 contract. Why should the Cubs take a gamble to pay him a boatload of money to rehabilitate himself, and then let him walk? (Hint: they shouldn't.) Any team can now offer Prior a cheap, multi-year contract full of incentive payouts (say 3 years at $500K each, with $1M for 12 starts, $2M for both 18 and 23 starts, $3M for 28 or more starts).nondisclosed_email@example.com (MarcoPolo666)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 21:09:26 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450753,from=rss#post450753https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450753,from=rss#post450753Dude. Prior? Signs long term? Noooooo He can't stay healthy. At all. Put it this way; if the pitching-starved CUBS non-tendered him, why the hell would the pitching-overstuffed Giants want him? Prior is toast. He'd be decent for a contender to take a chance on, but not a rebuilding team. Just imo.nondisclosed_email@example.com (losgigantes)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 21:02:24 +0000 Re: 2008 non-tendered listhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450750,from=rss#post450750https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450750,from=rss#post450750I wouldn't mind seeing the Giants take a chance and make a run at Dallas McPherson and Mark Prior. McPherson has a lot of power, but has had back issues and I believe he does struggle a bit with contact. Giants don't really have a 3B, so it might be a possible low cost/high reward gamble. Also, Prior has great stuff he just has problems staying healthy. Since we will not be good next year it might be a good idea to give him a chance. Maybe have him start in the pen and if things go well possibly move him into the rotation. If he does well hopefully he returns the favor and signs long term, if he doesn't pan out the Giants lose a couple million. Another possibly relatively low cost/high reward situation. nondisclosed_email@example.com (xxERICSMITHxx)Thu, 13 Dec 2007 20:40:48 +0000 2008 non-tendered listhttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450748,from=rss#post450748https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p450748,from=rss#post450748American League Angels Dallas McPherson, 3B A's Kiko Calero, RHP (re-signed with the A's) ; Jose Garcia, RHP Blue Jays Josh Towers, RHP Mariners John Parrish, LHP Orioles Cory Doyne, RHP; Roberto Novoa, RHP Rangers Nick Gorneault, OF; Akinori Otsuka, RHP Red Sox Brendan Donnelly, RHP Royals Emil Brown, OF Tigers Chad Durbin, RHP Twins Jason Tyner, OF White Sox Andy Gonzalez, INF; Heath Phillips, LHP Yankees T.J.
