Dallas McPherson???

Angels just non-tendered him.

This guy could be a steal.

Thoughts?

He's worth a shot, unlikely to bust out but what do they have to lose at this point?

Remember when Vizquel signed and I said that the Giants should hold off on moves to just fill holes, because every offseason there are unforseen opportunities to get cheap and usefull vets or cheap and promising youngster players, and you can't always predict when they'll come or what position they'll be at?

This is such an opportunity. Even if McPherson's upside is Dave Kingman, that's better than what the Giants have now.

Darn. Another "I 100% agree".

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

I agree. We have to take a chance on this kid. We need a 3B why the hell not? C'mon Sabes

From Rotoworld:

Angels non-tendered third baseman Dallas McPherson.

We must have had it wrong, because the Angels are saying McPherson was eligible for arbitration. He couldn't have been a super-two, as he spent no time on the active roster last season, so he must have gotten to three years despite spending parts of 2005 and 2006 in the minors. McPherson is a long shot to contribute right away in 2008 as he returns from back surgery, but the Twins and Giants should be all over the opportunity to pick him up, assuming he doesn't already have an agreement in place with the Angels.

Another guy who the Giants should really look at but like usually we probably won't give him a chance even if it doesn't cost us much.

I'll agree with anyone who invokes Dave "Kong" Kingman. Sold.

Re: Dallas McPherson???

His talent is such that I would be more then willing to give him a two or three yr deal with heavy PT incentives built into it, where if he plays and is healthy, he gets significantly more money. Remember, prior to his back injury, he was one of the most coveted young position players in baseball.
