Also, take it for what it's worth, but Will Carrol had this to say about what offers "should" be on the table for a guy like Lincecum...from Baseball Prospectus:
Dylan (SF): I've seen you write that Tim Lincecum is a "freak" before. I think it mainly refers to the fact that his mechanics are so odd that his longevity and chances of injury are completely unpredictable. Does this mean that you would trade him to the Jays straight up for Alex Rios? To me, the Jays have to add a reasonably talented pitcher to the equation.
Will Carroll: No, he's just a straight freak.
There is no single pitcher that I would trade straight up for Lincecum. There are very, very few players that I would take straight up for him and the ones I would are guys like Cabrera, Pujols, Reyes ...
... so yes, I like Tim Lincecum and would be willing to say that the Giants should never trade him.

on another point...I would have preferred a 3 year 40Mil contract. Give him more jack per season...for less seasons.

I agree with you in principal, but not necessarily in our situation. If we're not going to be competitive for another two years, then what is the point of a short term contract? Only the final year of a 3/$40 contract would contribute to a winning Giants team.

Re: giants sign aaron rowand to a 5 year deal
I've allowed this deal to percolate for the past hour and a half, and I've settled on this:
1) The Giants must hate Rajai Davis' youth.
2) Changing the clubhouse culture is more important than filling needs.
3) Aaron Rowand is a nice player and his contract isn't ridiculous in this market.
4) I'm being kind when I say that I don't think the Giants know what they're doing.
5) Spending big dough on players would be better PR if it was on homegrown talent, or on young guys the team traded for and extended. THAT is why you sign guys with two years left -- spend your ludicrous free agent dollars not on Aaron Rowand and Barry Zito, spend them on the Miguel Cabreras, etc. Yes, yes, you have to give up talent to get talent, I'm not talking about that, just pointing out that pre-arbitration years is the new free agency. The Giants aren't even in on the ground floor of this idea, though. They're two blocks down, peering through old-timey bifocals at the collapsed building that houses veteran intangibles.
6) I don't hate this signing, but I don't love it. I don't really like it, either. But I don't hate it. I just don't get it.

I will laugh my arse off if Rowand's name is on the "Mitchell list".
--- Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Re: giants sign aaron rowand to a 5 year deal
The one good thing is that he is only making 30% more a year than Winn. I am all for the deal since it means keeping LinceCain. If the Giants can move Winn/Roberts it would make it easier to swallow.
Do we have our number 4 hitter for next year?

I've now lost all faith in Sabean. After this signing, there is no doubt in my mind he is a complete !@#$ moron.
Why in the !@#$ are we paying a 30 year old slightly above-average outfielder 12 million a year?
This is !@#$ inexplicable.
FIRE SABEAN NOW!!!!!!!!!
