Re: Why in the world...Matsui!?
For those of us who have roundly criticized Brian Sabean for his mongoloidian ability to ignore or wholly misinterpret numbers, let's give him some credit where credit is due. He refused to give up a #2 prospect for a #3 prospect (net = -1) and a #59 prospect in all of America for a #60 prospect (net = -1).
Brian Sabean saved the Giants from losing 2 whatever points in that Sanchez for Gomez swap.
What the Giants don't need right now is young, five toolsy players. The ones they have with 1-1.5 tools should do, when augmented with veteran grit, savvy and heart.

Why in the world...Matsui!?
Fer chrissakes - we don't need ANOTHER outfielder !!
--- Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

There, fixed it. Unless you're making the claim that the Giants are flush with good outfielders and A-level outfield prospects.

The Mets weren't going to deal Gomez, I don't know where that rumor got started. The Mets are very high on him, and don't want to give him up, that's why they traded Milledge.

I'm making the point that we don't know if they are average, poor, or good if they don't even have 200 ABs in the majors. We have 4 guys in that situation (if you count Ortmeier). And the Giants need to dump Roberts before signing another OFer. Heck, they need to trade Roberts to some other team even if they *don't* sign another OFer.

Why in the world...Matsui!?
Winn, Roberts, and Davis all have 200 or more ABs in the majors.
I don't think the later two are more than 4th outfielders (if that). I don't think lewis is either, but he's only got 16 ABs.

Oops, silly me. Davis has 204 ABs in the majors.

And Lewis has 168 ABs, BTW.
