He was the college draft All-Star at first, the best pro debut for the Giants, best late round pick for SF, and rating as the best power hitter (with the asterisk that Fairley could become better eventually). • Dan Otero and Nick Noonan were also singled out for good debuts. • Tim Alderson was picked as the HS player in the draft closest to the majors. • Noonan was the Giants' draft's best pure hitter. Fairley was the fastest runner. • Jackson Williams threw out 43 percent of base-stealers, and was reported as handling a pitching staff 'with authority.' He was the top defensive player. • BA said the Giants had the 4th best draft in 2007. The teams ahead of them were the Nationals (5 picks in the Top 70, highlighted by Ross Detwiler, Josh Smoker and Michael Burgess), Rangers (6 picks in the Top 80, highlighted by Blake Beavan, Michael Main, and Julio Borbon), and the Tigers (2 picks in the Top 60, but the top pick was Fred Porcello at #27 overall, when some thought he should be #1 overall but slipped due to his demands).
