Oh, draft order. The Giants :
- pick 5th (highest first round pick in over a decade)
- maybe pick #37 (IF Pedro is signed by another team)
- lost their 2nd round pic (#54) by signing Rowand
- pick #84 in the 3rd round

Those numbers are only correct if all the potential free agents that'd earn compensation sign with other teams. The Feliz pick can only be #37. As for the others:
• The second round pick going to the Phillies could be #46-#54
• The third round pick the Giants will have could be #76-#84

Re: The 2008 draft - Who Fits?

Brute,

Looks like you left Brian Matusz from USD off your list.

There's not a chance he goes past the top 10, and I personally would not be surprised to see the Giants draft him.

He'd be another tall, hard throwing, lefty, but he's pretty much a sure thing from what I've seen, and I think he could go both ways as a starter or reliever.

I left him off mostly because of two reasons:
• I don't think he'd be there at #5.
• Even if he's there, the Giants have lefties galore, between MadBum, Zito, Lowry, Tanner, and even guys like Misch.

Maybe I should've included him, but this is definitely the early of early lists. When we're in the middle of the college season, ask again.

I didn't know Tanner was a lefty. I like him more now. And you forgot Sanchez.

If any of the pitchers project to arrive as quickly as 09, I'd have no problem drafting them.

I'll come back to this thread in a couple months.

Long, long way to go and a lot can happen. Maybe this could be like an official draft thread where we can update on how guys are doing.

I have no problem if we draft a pitcher with our first pick as long as he is a power hitter and plays 1st or 3rd base.

=)

I'd be happy with a couple more Cain's or Timmey's. Sure the organization needs some position players but I just want the Giants to draft the best players available. Please no more Tony Torcato's or Todd Linden's.

Just sayin'
