World Soccer Thread
I decided to make one as I'm sure there are a couple of you interested.
Discuss friendlies, tournaments, and leagues from around the world.
- The US national team is playing a friendly against China this Saturday at Spartan Stadium in San Jose and will be participating in the Gold Cup next week.
- Real Madrid/soon to be Los Angeles midfielder David Beckham was called up to the England national team for a friendly against Brazil and EURO 2008 qualifying. Beckham last played for England in the 06 WC in Germany.

I probably won't catch much of the game since the Giants @ Phillies start at 4, unless its a blowout in the early innings.

I don't really have favorite club since San Jose left for Houston, so I just like to watch the leagues that I can get, which are Mexico, England, and Italy. I do enjoy watching Arsenal when I get their games on Fox Soccer Channel because I like Henry(also Fabregas is a stud, if only he could score more goals) and Pachuca was a joy to watch this past season in the Mexican league. I hope MLS brings a team back to SJ.
On Benfica, I looked it up and they finished 3rd as Porto won the title. 3rd place is the final UEFA CL spot but they have to qualify to get into the group stages and I'm sure they can.
On the U.S., I like their chances in the Gold Cup and I'm not sure about Copa America, they are in a tough group. It also seems like Bob Bradley has more focus on winning on the Gold Cup, which of course is the easier competition.

Yeah, they have a lot of young players. They had to play a few of them late in the season because of injuries. I already mentioned Cesc Fabregas and was considered to be their best player last season. The other ones that caught my eye late in the season were Diaby and Denilson. They also have Theo Walcott, who is being hyped up over there in England and was on the England 06 WC squad but didn't play.

Liverpool has been rumored to get everyone and their mother.
It sounds like they could take Malouda over Simao. I do think Simao is done at Benfica. Speaking of Portugese players, Quaresma is getting a lot of interest.
