Question regarding Zito's Contract
How does the Contract effect our ability to resign Cain/Lincecum/other Free agents in the Future, did the Giants set the bar for negotiations. What happens when Cain becomes the Ace and has better numbers then Zito, does he demand 20 Million a year what about Lowry who in a couple years may be matching Zito's numbers does he get 18 Million a year?

Re: Question regarding Zito's Contract
why are you worried about re-signing a guy who hasnt pitched one inning at the ML level yet?

Because I was looking at a bigger picture then just the contract and it's length. If our young pitching (that will come up during Zito's contract length) goes to arbitration, they will be able to compare their numbers with Zito's. Will this have a impact on how resign-able our young pitchers are going to be.

Re: Question regarding Zito's Contract
There's no way Sabean allows Cain to go to arbitration before he inks him to a "longterm" (i.e, 3 or 4 years) contract, like he did with Lowry. We still control Cain's rights for, what, another 4 or so years at the league minimum, about $380K/yr. In the next year or two, I see Sabean (or whoever is GM-ing your Giants) locking him up with a $20 - $30 million deal. Brute or any CBA-heads, feel free to bash me if my facts are wrong. Or, feel free to bash me if my non-facts are crapstastic.
Regarding Lincecum, although I've seen him throw live at an SJ playoff game - he can flat-out fackin' deal - I agree w/ Irish. Let's see what he can do in Teh Show before we starting writing eight figure checks.

Re: Question regarding Zito's Contract
An interesting factoid I heard brought up was when it was mentioned that in two years when Johan Santana is a free agent his contract will make Zito's look like a good deal. Not that I think Zito is better than Johan, I am just saying maybe it was smart to get him locked up before Johan sets the bar even higher.
I am just curious to see what happens next offseason when Ichiro is a free agent, he will get a huge deal.

Re: Question regarding Zito's Contract
Yeah, if Zito's an $18 mil a year pitcher in this nutso market, then Santana is easily a 25 meelyun dollar mang.
Of course, in two years, there could be a "market correction" and he won't get more than $15 mil per.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhht.
