I'm not confident about the Bums being all that good. Love him or hate him, them losing Drew in the middle of the lineup and replacing him with Pierre isn't an improvement. Losing Lofton for the three-headed mediocre monster of Kemp/Gonzalez/Repko isn't an improvement either, and consistent depth in the outfield is an issue. The middle of their order relies pretty heavily on Garciaparra and Kent staying healthy and productive. They also currently have third base questions, although they have a couple of young options there with upside. And Martin had a great rookie season, but he can't fill a middle of the order role (yet); something he might have to do if the lack of hitters in LF and 3B push him up to the #6 hole. The wild card is Loney: will he be the shockingly good hitter he teased in 2006? He could move Garciaparra to third and take over first. He exploded last year, and his power potential may be for real, but it probably won't manifest perfectly just yet. He could easily take a sophomore slump, but he might not. He's a 'Time will tell' type, but he's probably for real down the line. Their rotation improved with Schmidt, and if Penny can be effective again, they could be impressive...but just as easily might not be. Lowe held the rotation together, and might be better than I gave him credit for....but I still think he might lose effectiveness. And while Billingsley should stick in the majors this year, the back end of LA's rotation is as messy as ever. The bullpen will be a mix of unprovens and unknowns with Saito closing. The Dodgers certainly have potential, but can go either way.nondisclosed_email@example.com (BruteSentiment)Thu, 21 Dec 2006 03:49:08 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388455,from=rss#post388455https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388455,from=rss#post388455I think the D Backs could move a couple of young hitters for pitching and could turn that thing around as soon as this year.... And in San Diego with Peavy and Young, leading the rotation....and a rock solid Bullpen....the NL West is looking better... nondisclosed_email@example.com (merkin)Thu, 21 Dec 2006 00:38:47 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388453,from=rss#post388453https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388453,from=rss#post388453LA in a landslide at this point, but San Diego has surprised me two years in a row.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cain43)Thu, 21 Dec 2006 00:19:42 +0000 Re: Which NL Rival has the best chance in 2007?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388452,from=rss#post388452https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388452,from=rss#post388452Honestly, I'd love for it to be Colorado. I can see the doggies having injury problems with their older players next year. Don't forget that Fatty Conte is the new trainer down south. I also thing (read:hope) the hiring of a rookie manager in SD may hinder the team. Colorado is returning a bunch of young hitters along with best hitting 1B in the past 20 years and they seem to have finally figured out the pitching/humidifier problems. Could work out for them. nondisclosed_email@example.com (chefjuan)Thu, 21 Dec 2006 00:18:47 +0000 https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388449,from=rss#post388449https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388449,from=rss#post388449Bums.. no doubt about itnondisclosed_email@example.com (notagiantsfan)Wed, 20 Dec 2006 23:23:16 +0000 Which NL Rival has the best chance in 2007?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388448,from=rss#post388448https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p388448,from=rss#post388448Assuming that there are still moves to be made, which of our NL West Rivals is best suited to win the Division in 2007?nondisclosed_email@example.com (merkin)Wed, 20 Dec 2006 23:13:56 +0000
