Ralph At KNBR: "Anybody But Benitez"

Larry : my question to you, is what would you like to happen? would you like he trade? or would you like us to release the man and nothing for him?

Ralph : whatever you are, i'll take correia, i'll take wilson, i'll take sanchez, i'll take lincecum, i'll take ... i'll take anybody. ANYBODY BUT BENITEZ.

Larry : ABB. Anybody But Benitez. Right ?

Ralph : YES.

Of course, for Ralph it's a lot easier, since it's not his team and it's not his money. The reality is, in the current sad state of major league pitching, Benitez is still a commodity with value. To just release him before spring training -- and before we've explored all our trade options and seen what our own internal bullpen options look like -- would be foolish.

If there is a 'market' for Benitez, I'm sure it's nothing more than a backup something or other, or a prospect. But let's deal with him rationally, and get whatever value we can for him, IF trading him is what our best option turns out to be.

Or is Ralph freakin' Barbieri now our standard and guide for making baseball decisions?

Re: Ralph At KNBR: "Anybody But Benitez"

of course, Ralph isn't our standard or guide. he's just one of the host at radio station. but "ABB" was an acrimonious expression i've ever heard about Mando. that's why i "loved" his spoken.

but EMOTIONALLY, i still absolutely want to trade him to any other team in Japan, Korea or Taiwan even Iraq despite a small reward for him. however, like you said, Mando has a tiny-tiny value right now. (even recently "market") at this point in time, IMO, we should be kept him for more month before AS Break.

like Magowan's interview, "If somebody could give me the answer to that question, I'd feel a lot more comfortable knowing how we're going to do."

maybe that's the best answer how i feel.

I wouldn't release him but I wouldn't hand him the closer job either. He can compete for bullpen roles like the rest of the guys in spring training.

I want him in the Ryan Jensen role.

That is, part time first base coach at Fresneck.
