According to Rosenthal, the Giants and Fish continue to talk trade. Supposedly the hangup is not the money but what player the Giants would get back in return.
I don't know who the Fish have in terms of prospects, but if the Giants could get a decent prospect in return, especially if the Fish want the Giants to pick up most of Benitez's contract, then I'm hopeful the Giants could get someone decent and I'd do the deal.
Just sayin'

i just saw it too... on rotoworld...
The Giants and Marlins are working on an Armando Benitez trade, though according to FOXSports.com, they haven't decided on who the Giants will get in return.
It sounds like that's the bigger issue now than how much of Benitez's $7.6 million salary the Giants will pick up.

Shat, the Giants should pick up 7.7 of the 7.6 if it gets him outta here, and they get a good prospect in return. The Marlins seem capable of building prospects.

Do you think the Giants are holding out for someone off the Marlins 25 man roster? Or are they haggling over prospects? Anybody know if the Fish have any decent prospects that the Giants would be interested in and could realistically get for Armando?

Thrill, I can only assume with the team they put on the field last year that they can develop decent prospects. Though for a more detailed and accurate picture we need Brute or Kevin...

Re: benitez mentioned again
Gaby Hernandez, there's a name I know. He pitched a no-hitter last year (when he was still in the Mets' system, I think). Oh, sure, it was at high-A ball, but it was a no-no nonetehless. Facker still owes a certain ex-teammate some back rent, though. Facker.
I'm surprised Yusmeiro Petit (spelling?) is nowhwere on that list - I believe he also came from NYM in either the Delgado or LoDuca trade, and was rated as their top pitching prospect at one time.
That's all I got.

If the Livo trade were an analog, the Giants might not get a minor league prospect. In the deal that sent Livo to Montreal, the Giants ate all his salary and got Brower back in the deal. Might the Giants get a similar deal? If so, what player off their 25 man roster would the Giants get? Another arm for the pen maybe?

Re: benitez mentioned again
Not looking so good for a trade...
BENITEZ DEAL IN DOUBT
The Marlins' bid to acquire Giants closer Armando Benitez from the San Francisco Giants has hit a snag.
According to a source familiar with the talks, the two sides cannot come to terms on the player the Giants would receive. Asked to characterize the state of the negotiations, the source said: "It's not looking good."
Any deal is contingent on the Giants absorbing a substantial chunk of Benitez's $7.6 million 2007 base salary. Benitez would also have to pass a physical.
The Giants are seeking a late-inning reliever with some experience. About the only player on the Marlins' roster that fits that description is newly acquired Kevin Gregg, and to a lesser extent Randy Messenger and Sergio Mitre.
