of course the muts were gonna choke. early in the series when they just didn't dominate shed too much light on the cards' chances. thehed feels that the cards were just underachieving during the year, and based on the roster and experience level of said roster, this was not as big an upset as many would like to think.

I think that the Tigers will win it in 5 or 6 games

Tigers in 4? Also, I think the real reason the Mess lost was pinch hitting freakin' Cliff Floyd in the bottom o' the ninth. Well, maybe that wasn't the reason, but it definitely felt like a Dusty WS move.

Re: A team with just 83 regular season wins takes the NL pennant

It just goes to show that in the new age of a watered down league, you don't need to win 95+ games to make it to teh WS. You just need to get into teh post season and be hot at teh right time.

I'm saying this because of all teh whiners who for teh past 2 years said teh Giants blew chunks because they where a .500 team.

Yet they where in contention teh entire year. Had they been able to hold it together and win a few more games, they could be in teh same postion as the Cardinals, even with a non-spectacular record.

So next time teh Giants go into teh last part of the season with a record of 75-72 and 3 games [sign in to see URL]'t write them off and think it doesn't matter. Regular season records mean squat. Just get into teh [sign in to see URL] you have a good shot at winning it all.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

This ain't nothin' new. '73 Mets and '87 Twins come to mind. Both with sub-90 seasons. Yankees too, recently. Astros last season ... but that your point ... so:

Indians in '95 had 86 wins ... and plenty of teams in the 90-92 range. But the WC does make it easier, obviously.

Actually, the WC is harder because YOU DO need a good record to get in the postseason that way.

methinks the manager has a bunch to do with it. giants need a manager who knows how to get his team ready when it counts. clearly felipe was not that manager. the bellyflop in 03, and the stretch run this year made that painfully clear.

Re: …

Is there a mgr. out there who's capable of elevating the play of the Giants? One with a track record of winning/motivating?
