Flags Of Our Fathers
If this movie does not win every Ocsar, Golden Globe, People's Choice and Top-Ten HF award from Best Picture to Freshest and Most Imaginative Craft Services ... then just cancel the facking events.
In fact, just cancel them right now and mail out the trophies.
This is a facking masterpiece.

Re: Flags Of Our Fathers
SPV is Gomer Pyle, USMC compared to this movie.

I haven't seen it yet, maybe this weekend. I'd call your praise over-the-top if this wasn't an Eastwood film. He's one of the all-time best behind the camera.
There they battled up Iwo Jima's hill
Two hundred and fifty men
But only twenty seven lived
To walk back down again
Call him Drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine who went to war...
I'm curious about the companion piece, "Letter From Iwo Jima", told from the Japanese side and also directed by Clint. Coming in 2007

Re: …
You know that I'm pretty reticent with praise when it comes to movies, Balzac.
But this picture is ... experential. There weren't no-body talking during it, so I didn't have to shread anyone's vocal chords this time.

Well, I am sure it is better than "The Thin Red Line" which of course was another movie about the jarheads {the battle in Guadalcanal}. That movie was just awful {imo}. It was way to long [close to 3 hours} and didn't have much action in it.

I read recently that a vet of IWO (he was a Captain at the time) praised Clint for his excellent use of actual film footage of the battle. Eastwood considered it one of the best compliments he had ever received in his career. As he told the vet there was no historic footage used - it was all shot during the actual filming.
