I'm playing franchise mode right now. It took me six tries to get a team I really liked. I play the games as manager 'cause I suck at the hitting part. My batting order goes something like this: Jose Reyes (3rd Draft Pick) Joe Mauer (5th Pick) Carlos Beltran (1st Pick) Miguel Cabrera (Traded Brandon Inge (7th Pick) and my back up catcher Chris Snyder (16th Pick) for him. I had 3 teams give me trade offers for Snyder during the season and the fans were not pleased with Inge's performance.) Dave Roberts (9th Pick) Sean Casey (6th Pick) Ryan Zimmerman (14th Pick) Curtis Grandersen (10th Pick) Starting pitchers: Matt Morris (4th Pick) Matt Cain (8th Pick) Francisco Liriano (11th Pick) Jeremey Bonderman (13th Pick) Daniel Cabrera (12th Pick) Joe Nathan (2nd Pick) closing I set the bullpen as last on my priority list so I ending up getting a bunch of average youngsters. Justin Verlander (15th Pick) is starting pitcher for my AAA grizzlies. Record as of August 20th: 79 - 45 The dodgers are only 2 games back. Average attendance at homes games thus far is ~34,000. Even with good ticket sales I can't afford to give the players first class seats for road trips! They're ridin' the team bus. But after playing 162+ games against the CPU you get to know some glitches and quirks by the CPU. You get to know what pitch they will probably gonna pitch, or to what base they gonna throw so you can move somebody (a lot of times I had a runner at 2B and hit the ball to the SS and you can easily move your runner from 2B, and when they try to do the same you get an easy out at 3B hehe)... But in the playoffs I made it really difficult. I had the User Contact and Power at almost 0, and the CPU contact and Power at almost 100. That series against the Astros was really tough. I thought I could be out of the WS... If the WS was against the Yankees I could have lost it. They have a lineup full of great hitters in the game. And Randy Johnson, Mussina, Wright, Pavano, Wang they are all pretty nasty, not to say Rivera and Farnsworth (you can barely see the ball, 100mph+)... But the Indians won that series and they don't have the greatest team in the game. During the season I had a couple of games when I scored 20+ runs, but I always tried to make it tougher. BTW, I headed into the Offseason. These are the positions I needed to fill in for retirement or due to my players becoming FA: 2B: Durham -> FA. I wanted to try somebody else so I did not resign him. Backup Catcher: Haad was my backup catcher. Don't need to say anything else. Bullpen arm: Now with the loss of Hoffman, I will need someone for the bullpen. Backup Shortstop: I don't want to resign with Vizcaino, so I will need someone to play for Vizquel and to give the other IFs some time off. 4th OF: I won't resign Finley, so I need someone to fill in for Bonds and Alou. Closer: Hoffman -> Club Option of 2+ millions. I want to try Tyler Walker who was nasty in the 2006 season, and to get Hoffman would be an expensive option (2M in the game is a lot expensive) So I went on to sign with FAs. The game AI is really really bad, as we had a loooooooooot of players in the FA! Guys like Huston Street, Ronny Cedeno... and so many other young guys in the FA??? What the hell!! Those are the guys that I was able to sign with: Ichiro Hillembrand Ronny Cedeno Bergmann (a 26 year old from the Angels organization that was a FA, and had a B potential, so he was headed to my AA team) I signed Ichiro and needed to get rid of someone. Alou was aging so I was able to pull a trade for him. I sent him to the Twins to get a couple of minors. Also I signed with Hillembrand, but I already have Niekro, who is great in the game. So I made Feliz a 2B, and put Hillembrand at 3B. I was thinking of making Niekro a 2B, since he can play 2B in the game also, but Pedro is a more versatile guy so he was the one chosen. Also I didn't sign with any backup catcher, because Matheny now platoons the Catcher position with a 19 yer old catcher. Yeah that's right. I signed a young catcher in the draft named Farrar. He has tremendous contact and power ratings against Lefties. Against RHP he is not great but does ok. So I have a platoon here. My lineup for 07: Ichiro Vizquel Hillembrand Bonds Winn (he is a power hitter in the game haha they were fooled by his second half of 2005, just like we were haha) Niekro Feliz Matheny/Farrar My rotation for 07: Schmidt Morris Cain Lowry Young Bullpen: Hennessey Taschner Kline Worrell Munter Walker My bench: Ellison Sweeney Cedeno ... can't remember the others haha I played the first Spring Training game and saw merkin sitting on the stands =P We won 3-2 against the Cubs. Cedeno went 1 for 2, and hit a HR in his first Giants AB! Farrar went 0 for 2. Ichiro 0 for 3. Hillembrand 1 for 3. Ellison went 1 for 1. Young got the W. And Walker got the SV =Dnondisclosed_email@example.com (KreGg)Sun, 10 Sep 2006 15:54:51 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14216,from=rss#post14216https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14216,from=rss#post14216That was pretty cool, seems like the game is too easy for you!   nondisclosed_email@example.com (Weill)Sun, 10 Sep 2006 14:26:50 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14215,from=rss#post14215https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14215,from=rss#post14215So back into the final days of the playoffs: Giants beat the Astros in an great series to go to the playoffs. The Giants would be taking on the Mariners, who beat the Yankees on a 7th game. It would be a great series between 2 teams that haven't won a WS since a loooong time. Gm 1: Schmidt was called on to pitch. Beautiful day in SF (we had the homefield advantage since the NL won the ASG). Dave Campbell the color commentarist was talking about how big it is to win the first game of the WS. The Giants took the field with a full house of 41,583 or so. The Giants scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. And Schmidt had his A game going. He cruised through 6 complete innings, when Walker came in and kept the Indians there. The Giants scored 2 more runs in the 8th, to make it 4 to 0. Hoffman came in, and after a leadoff single, we got the DP and then a ground ball to 1B Niekro. Game over! Gm 2: Another sunny day at the Bay. Young would be pitching for us. He has pitched great in the postseason, posting a sub 2.00 ERA, but hasn't recorded a W yet. So the Giants were really willing to give him a W in his first playoff. It was a pretty easy game for us, the Indians seemed tired from that series against the Yankees. Young pitched brilliantly and held the Indians to just 2 runs in 8th innings. The Giants offense did great. We had 7 runs coming into the 9th, so Munter came in to close the game. 1,2,3. Game over. Giants take the first 2 games of the series, and we are heading to Cleveland! Gm 3: After a long flight, in the team's particular jet (I had to buy this thing, which costs you TONS of money!! Because you start with a BUS!! Not even a TEAM BUS!! A normal BUS to carry your players and staff from city to city!! haha a MLB team with not even a plane...) the Giants arrived in Cleveland ready to play the 3rd game of the 06 WS! The Indians would be trying everything they could to win that game. Morris was asked to pitch for us. CC Sabathia would be the opposing pitcher. Sabathia reached 99mph on his fastball many times during the game, and had 7 Ks through 6 IP. But Morris, although not as overpowering as Sabathia, was keeping us in the Game. When Sabathia was gone, we had our chances of scoring. Rafael Betancourt came in and the Giants offense made that decision to take Sabathia a bad decision. The Giants scored 4 runs in the 7th. The games stayed in Giants favor through all the rest of the Game. And the Giants would win their 3rd consecutive game. 3-0 in the series for the Giants and we're ready for the SWEEP! The Indians called for a team meeting, and they asked God to help them. They got their wish (as God raised their attributes by changing the Slide settings making them tougher). Gm 4: The Indians needed a WIN to keep their dreams alive. Actually, now every game would be a MUST WIN for the Indians. The Giants called Hennessey, who won the most games for the Giants in the regular season. Cliff Lee was pitching for the Indians. Lee was a 18-game winner in 2005 and 13 game winner in 2006. Hennessey won 22 in 2006. It was a pitcher's duel until the 5th inning, when Henny gave up 3 runs. The Giants came back to score 2 runs in the top 6th, but Henny could not hold the 1-run game, and gave up 2 more runs. In the 8th, Betancourt came in, and the Giants were able to score 2 more runs off him. It was 5 to 4, coming into the TOP 9th. Bob Wickman was called on to pitch. He had been amazing through all the playoffs. He had 5 SVs already, in 5 SVOs. A 0.00 ERA in 6 IP. 2 HITs allowed. But Randy Winn was leading off the inning, and he got a base hit on a ground ball to RF. Vizquel would be up next. Vizquel fouled off 2 pitches, and the count was 0-2. Then on a wicked sinker, Wickman got a ground ball, that Peralta, the SS, tossed to 2B Belliard who flipped it to Perez at 1B. DOUBLE PLAY. Feliz came up to bat with Bonds on deck. He needed to get on base at least, but after having the count 0-2 and then 1-2 he struck out on a great curveball to end the Game. The Indians were still alive. Cain was called for the possible last game of the 2006 WS. The Giants scored some runs earlier, but the Indians came back. It was 2 to 2 coming into the 4th when the Giants scored 2 runs to break the tie and give back Cain the lead. The Giants kept the lead until the 5th, when Cain suddenly gave up back to back HRs, to tie the game. He got 2 outs, and then? BOOM! Another BIG FLY! 3 HRs in the inning for the Indians! All of them solo, and the Indians take the lead! 5 to 4... Cain could not believe it, nor could the Giants. But the Giants wouldn't go quietly as in the 7th, the Giants EXPLODED to score 6 runs in the 7th. Hoffman was called to pitch in the 9th just to secure the victory and the WS title. He got a K on Belliard to start the inning. Then a ground ball on Hafner. And then a ground ball to Vizquel who flipped the ball to Niekro for the LAST OUT of the 2006 WORLD SERIES! Giants win! Giants win! After more then 50 years, the Giants were celebrating again! After the game, ESPN interviewed Bonds, and they asked him: "Now that you fulfilled your dream of winning the WS, are you ready to retire?" And he said: "It makes me wonder if we will have another chance at winning it all next year also. I will be back if the Giants need me." BTW Bonds were given the WS MVP Award, an award he lost to Glaus in 2002. The fans are going crazy in San Francisco. Everybody is waiting for the team that will do a little parade through SF streets. That will be the greatest offseason in SF history nondisclosed_email@example.com (KreGg)Sun, 10 Sep 2006 11:49:34 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14214,from=rss#post14214https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14214,from=rss#post14214damm....i want this game (and a ps2) now....so much fun.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ultimategiantsfan)Sat, 09 Sep 2006 21:05:02 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14213,from=rss#post14213https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14213,from=rss#post14213quote:KreGg wrote: haha did you tried without Marvin? I prefer actually playing with the players hehe I'm glad to know the Giants still exist in 2030 and better yet we won 11 Titles! haha BTW: I played 3 more games... Game 5 was a must win for the Astros. We were winning the game until the Bot 6th, when someone, who I don't remember, blew the lead. On the Bot 8th, the Astros took the lead. Lidge came in to close the game, Finley PH for the pitcher, got a leadoff single to start the frame. But then 2 Ks and a Popup and we lost the game. 3-2 We came back to San Francisco, and Schmidt started the game 6. A win would send us to the world series. Great game by Schmidtty. 8.0 IP, 1 run allowed. Giants were leading 2 to 1 coming into the 9th. Here came Hoffman!! The bells started to make some noise. Hells bells... bla bla bla. 1 OUT. 2 OUT. Berkman up... HOME RUN! BLOWN SAVE! Everybody were in their feet (actually they weren't, this is just a video game haha) and then fucking Hoffman blew it! But he managed to get out of the inning. Then on the TOP 11th, Walker came in... 2 OUTs. 2 on. Preston Wilson coming to bat, and? 3 Run Shot to deep LF... Lidge comes in and closes it out... SERIES TIED 3-3... So we went to the Game 7!!! The decisive game 7. The Giants called Morris, the season Cy Young Award winner, to try and send us to the WS. He gave up a leadoff HR, then got 1 out, then a HR to Berkman... But the Giants wouldn't go quiet... Winn leadoff single. Vizquel bunt single. Feliz K'ed. Bonds also struk out, but Big Mo cleared the bases with a 2-RBI 2-out Double to tie the game. The game would stay tied until the BOT 5th, when Ray Ray homered into the Bay to take the lead. Morris, after the rough 1st inning cruised through the Astros order. Niekro would hit a big 3-run Shot in the 8th to give the pitchers some runs to work, and Matheny would do the same. Matt Cain came in to relief Morris in the 7th, and pitched brilliantly to earn a 3 Inning SV. The last out, was a pop fly to Bonds, who ran like a little child after catching the ball, screaming: "We are going to the World Series!!" The Mariners defeated the Yankees in the Gm 7 of the ALCS. I already played the Gm 1 of the WS. BTW, the Giants went to Houston, Texas and won the 3rd game, to take the lead on the series. Game 4: It was Hennessey (22-game winner on the season) pitching for the Giants. The Giants started well. Winn leadoff walk. Vizquel bunt single. 2 on, 0 out. Pedro Feliz AB. He hit into 2 DPs on the 3rd game. I was saying, please, K, pop up the ball, but don't hit into the ground. 1-2, fastball down and in... GROUND BALL! DOUBLE PLAY! But Bonds came through with an RBI Double to take the lead early in the game. We scored another run in the 2nd, but Hennessey also gave up 1 run in the bottom. The Giants went on to score on the 5th, with a Bases Clearing, 2 OUT Double by MIKE MATHENY!!! And we never lost the lead. Hennessey only lasted 5 2/3, but Lowry came in and pitched well enough to earn the SV (his 2nd in the playoffs, 3.0+ IPs Save). Matheny was the player of the game: 4 for 5, HR, Double, Single, Single, 5 RBIs. Final Score: 10 to 5, Giants. Now we gonna play 1 more game at Houston. If the Giants win, we are going to the WS! If we lose, we are coming back to SF, to try and win at home! Pedro Feliz K'ed to leadoff the 9th. Then Bonds followed with a 1-out Triple! Then they Intentionally walked Mo Alou, and with Niekro batting, a WALK OFF WILD PITCH!! Giants win to tie the series at 1. BTW the Yankees and the Mariners are fighting each other in the ALCS. Yankees is the Wild Card team. It is tied at 1 that series also.nondisclosed_email@example.com (KreGg)Sun, 03 Sep 2006 13:46:48 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14203,from=rss#post14203https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14203,from=rss#post14203some game that's like tetris but with bubbles i think..no baseball games. it's a samsung e317 i think...going to get a new phone..sorry i can't be more help..nondisclosed_email@example.com (Monkey51)Sat, 02 Sep 2006 23:34:18 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14202,from=rss#post14202https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14202,from=rss#post14202hahaha I do this all the time, after the Giants fail to score a runner from 3B with less then 2 outs in real life. Or when they can't hold a lead late in the game... I just go and beat someone, preferably the Dodgers, to make me happier. BTW, what game do you have in your cellphone? I have C2S Baseball, or anything like that, but it doesn't play well on it (I have that NOKIA 6265). I downloaded a lot of baseball games, but none work well on 6265.   nondisclosed_email@example.com (KreGg)Sat, 02 Sep 2006 23:15:07 +0000 Re: Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14201,from=rss#post14201https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14201,from=rss#post14201you know..someone else i know has a game for PS and if the season was tanking big time we were thinking of going over to watch him play and watch the giants win..that way we'd at least see the world series with the giants in it. i think someone else on here plays video games..jaq does..not sure if he has this or not.. this is a good way to forget about the game..i am hooked on my cell phone game..nondisclosed_email@example.com (Monkey51)Sat, 02 Sep 2006 23:10:05 +0000 Anyone play MLB 06: THE SHOW?https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14200,from=rss#post14200https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p14200,from=rss#post14200Hi, I wanna know if anyone here plays this game? Do you? I play, and I play a lot. I bought this game back on March, just before the season started. I have played every game in my season as the Giants, and I finished the season with 127 wins!! haha I know, I tried everything to make it harder!! It is already on the hardest level, and I played a lot with the slide settings, but I couldn't make the CPU on a good challenging level... Bonds is a beast... He hit .536 with 89 HRs for me... heck, Morris won 22 games and lost just 1!! I was pissed off when I was able to get Hoffman + Chris Young for BENITEZ + Correia + a fake Minor Leaguer... I don't like to make trades like that, in fact, I never make trades like that, because it is always way too easy in video games, but I could not watch Benitez coming in, and having to pitch with him... It would have been a horrible trade for me, if Chris Young was not involved (I will explain it why later)! Benitez closed 34 games of 36 for the Padres and had a stellar 1.65 ERA for them! BTW, Hoffman blew 4 games to me, closed 28, and had an ERA of 4.35. And every game he came in to close seemed like Benitez' SVs this year, for the "real life Giants". He always gave up doubles and singles and HRs... Damn, the CPU loves that change up! I can not throw it! So I have to go with the fastball and curve... and a 89mph fastball won't do any good! If I leave the changeup in the zone they would hit it. If I threw it off the strike zone, they would just look at it, and walk. But, I'm glad I had Tyler Walker!! He was amazing!! He closed 6 games out of 6! And ended up the season with a 1.42 ERA!! He is a great pitcher, he will be my closer for the next years! He has a great fastball a great changeup and a good curve also. But so was Taschner, who had an ERA of 2.80. And so was Munter, who was called up to the bigs in mid-July because of the injury of Lowry (broken left arm, 2 months out, fortunately he came back just before the playoffs). And that's why Chris Young was so big in that TRADE! He was a Long Reliever when Lowry was pitching, but then he turned into my 4th SP, and did great. 14-4, 3.75 ERA! I would have to go with Jeff Fassero (who I sent to AA level, but don't ask me how! haha) if I could not pull that trade. BTW, he pitched great down there! 0.49 ERA, 10-0 hahahaha, the old fat guy owning the kids! Now I'm in the playoffs, and I'm already in the NLCS, against the Astros. I beat the Phillies, 3-0 in the NLDS. Guess I'm going to win the WS? Now, to make things more difficult and more tense, I have the contact and power slides almost at 0 for me, and increased a lot the CPUs slides. It's gonna be tough... You want me to keep updating this thread until the WS? nondisclosed_email@example.com (KreGg)Sat, 02 Sep 2006 22:53:03 +0000
