Portugal/England was a good match. Rooney was just stupid to stomp Cavalho(SP?) of Portugal. You have to be more calm and disciplined at this level, especially at this stage where your playing to get into the final 4. It could have very well costed his team the game, though England had some good chances later in the 2nd half. I thought England would have won because Portugal had Deco out, maybe the 2nd best player on Portugal. I'm not surprised that Eriksson isn't coming back to coach England. His lineups were too conservative and he didn't really get into the players like he maybe should have. On the PK's, Ricardo of Portugal was outstanding, great goalkeeping. France and Brazil ends in the same result of the 98 Final, except it was 1-0. I'm a little surprised. I feel like Brazil and England were the most disappointing teams in this WC. What a great goal by France, Zidane to Henry on the free kick. Zidane played like he was 20 years old today. Brazil played decent defense but I think age might have caught up to them. Cafu looked like he was nearing 50 the way he was playing. Ronaldinho had a good free kick that was a little high but he didn't really do much in this WC. He didn't even look close to the player he was with Barcelona. I know its a different sport but I guess you could say that this Brazil team reminded me of the 2003-2004 Lakers. Great starting lineup, name players, and showed flashes of greatness but don't play together as a team in the end. I think that sums up this Brazil team very well.nondisclosed_email@example.com (sfgiantsfan1285)Sat, 01 Jul 2006 15:30:44 +0000 Re: World Cuphttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p13974,from=rss#post13974https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p13974,from=rss#post13974quote:sfgiantsfan1285 wrote: How surprising, another classic Argentina/Germany showdown! I know Abiandizerri(SP?)leaving the game at goalkeeper messed with their plans but you still have 2 subs to make. With one of those subs, you have to put in Messi or Saviola. Jose Pekerman didn't, he instead went with a conservative, un-Argentina like style when he went with Cruz for Riquelme. Don't get me wrong, Cruz is good but Argentina needed to play their style to win this game. I felt like Pekerman coached to not lose the game, and like in all sports, it comes back and really bites. Germany showed why they could be champs. They have the heart of one. This team didn't back down, they kept pushing and pushing. Klose has to be one of the most underrated strikers on Earth. He makes some goals look easy. I think Klinsmann would like nice coaching on the U.S. sideline in 2010. His attacking style and our athleticism are such a perfect match. Penalty Kicks to end a classic like that??? Ecuador is not flashy but they are fundamentally sound and well coached. Germany/Ecuador will play for first place in the group. Should be a great game now that Germany has Ballack back. The other game, England/T&T, was a bit entertaining before England took over for the 2-0 win. England had some good chances to score in the first half but couldn't put it in. I really think this game changed when Lennon and Rooney entered the game.Lennon brought more of a speed game and Rooney is not only a great, young, talented player but a crowd favorite as well. T&T did what they could with what they have, they put in 100%. I applaud them for hanging in there with one of the better teams in the tourney for 75 minutes or so. Paraguay/Sweden will be a good game.nondisclosed_email@example.com (sfgiantsfan1285)Thu, 15 Jun 2006 12:15:43 +0000 Re: World Cuphttps://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p13968,from=rss#post13968https://boardsfgiantsfans.runboard.com/p13968,from=rss#post13968yeah the tunsia game sounds like it was amazin... Tunisia tied the game 2-2 in the 93rd minute, 3 minutes into stoppage time and the game ended a few seconds after it. Germany and Poland lived up to the billing, Germany scored the games only goal in the 91st minute, a couple minutes left until a 0-0 tie. Must be heartbreak in Poland, this is a big rivalry especially with the fans. Spain/Ukraine was a blowout and I didn't watch it because I was sleeping.
