Obviously, haven't been updating but San Jose is back in the MLS.
They opened up @ Los Angeles tonight and lost 2-0 on goals from Beckham and Donovan. The defense was a mess for both goals and this is supposedly the strength of the team. It was pretty much expected since they are expansion but I was disappointed in the performances of O'Brien, Corrales, and Cochrane. I may give Corrales a break since coach Yallop played him out of position as a CM when he's usually a left back or left midfield. He'll probably have to play in the middle because there is not that much depth. I hope they can make some more acquisitions but I think they'll tough it out this season and make a splash in the winter transfer market.

- Red Bull New York/U.S. forward Jozy Altidore's move to La Liga side Villarreal is near completion, according to the teenager himself during ESPN2's broadcast of RBNY/Chivas USA match earlier tonight. Altidore, 18, has played 36 matches for New York, scoring 15 goals and has represented the USA in U-17 and U-20 World Cups, and recently the Senior national team, making 3 appearances(@ South Africa, v. Sweden, and v. Mexico) with 1 goal(v. Mexico on 2/6/08). The $10M transfer fee paid by Villarreal is a record for an American born player. It is speculated that he will be immediately loaned out to fellow La Liga outfit Recreativo de Huelva for the 2008-2009 season. He is rumored to be called up by the national team for Sunday's exhibition match against Argentina in East Rutherford, New Jersey. If he gets the callup, he will likely make his 4th appearance for the United States.

2010 World Cup Qualifying is well under way.
CONCACAF and ACF have or are about to begin the final round of qualifying while CONMEBOL is half way(8 games played, 8 left) and UEFA just got going. 2009 is sure to be a busy year in world soccer.

Iv seen Jozy play for both the Red Bull and America's U-19s and i dont believe he's good enough to play in la liga. He's a big lad who might be better suited to the Bundesliga or the championship in England. I wouldn't say his ability on the ball will be up to standard in Spain.
