the wet blanket
thehed hates spring training. it's like preseason football. guys are working on technique, especially the pitchers. the stats mean jack !@#$, and so do the games. nobody takes anything seriously.
on the bright side i would love to go down to az for a couple weeks, drink beer, check out the college girls, and watch some meaningless baseball...so st has that going for it...

Re: the wet blanket
Some players take it very seriously.
like this guy, shown at bat yesterday.
Third year in a row he has homered in his very first ST at bat, (or maybe it was a home run in his first ST game, three years running)--or so I have been told.

Re: the wet blanket
my opinion is that the pitchers are much worse (working on various stuff), and the batters get an easier time.
funny how randy "keeps his back elbow up." that's what a bunch of dumbass little league coaches teach the kids, but as you get older it's taught that your bathead can get to the zone faster with a lower elbow. hey randy, it's not little league anymore! lol i guess whatever works.

Re: the wet blanket
I'm not a huge Randy Winn fan, but it seemed to work ok for him last season.
And he was facing a big league starter when he nailed that first pitch, ---but yeah, there isn't much of a conclusion to be drawn this early in the year about pitching or hitting, other than that Winn is definitely taking good cuts-- and Rowand was too.
It's going to be a long year and the staff has to be nearly flawless to make it even interesting at all.

Re: the wet blanket
winn has always used that technique, and he has had a pretty sucessful mlb career with it. hell there aren't many guys who wouldn't be happy with a career like his. sure he's not the hammer time guy in the 3 or 4 hold on the world series contender, but he is a solid player. he has made an all star appearance, and the reality is, he and rowand are the two best hitters on this club. i have no problem with winn in the lineup "blocking" a prospect...dave roberts on the other hand...is a washed up nice guy who should be !@#$ released. then have teh kids play lf.

Re: the wet blanket
Couldn't agree more, and now with Ray Hammy ailing even worse, we really just have to dump them both.
Let Nate play OF, I'd even rather see Freddy taking krap routes to the ball, then see Dave and Ray on the 25 man roster.
Hammy and Pork shoulder
Durham added to growing injury list for Giants
Friday, Feb 29, 2008 7:23 am EST
San Francisco Giants second baseman Ray Durham's sore right shoulder had been improving, but the pain was worse when he reported to work and was to undergo an MRI exam Thursday evening to determine the nature of his injury the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Manager Bruce Bochy had hoped Durham could be the designated hitter for today's game against Seattle at Scottsdale Stadium. Now, that is unlikely.
Durham's injury is part of a troubling trend for the Giants. Shortstop Omar Vizquel already is lost for four to six weeks after knee surgery, Bengie Molina has recovered slowly from a quadriceps strain and Rich Aurilia has had a sore hamstring. Aurilia is expected to play in one of two split-squad games today.

Hey John Jacobs.
I really don't need you following me around like a lost and obsessed puppy dog.
So get over it.
thanks.

Re: the wet blanket
keep in mind that Winn has batted .300 twice in his career and the 1/2 season that he spent here when he was traded he batted .359 with what....11 homers? Winn is a consumate professional that sets a standard that others should try to live up too. I am glad he plays Right Field for the orange and black. Nate will get his turn. Keep in mind that last season he hit a "weak" .308 or whatever.
