Although I suppose he might (should) improve in 2008 to the average of his last 4 years performance - a decent, middle-of-the-pack #2. Yeah, giving him a 7 year, $18M/per contract is STILL the worst-ever move.

Given the retarded money average starters are getting lately, 18M/yr will look like a deal in 7 years. But then again, in 7 years zito could be a middle reliever.

Yeah - in seven years - not NOW.

Do not suggest trading for somebody for only two years (unless the Giants dump a crappy contract)

Please tell me this is a fucked up joke on Sabean's part, please? If there is a God, Sabean WILL NOT follow through with this.

I'd rather have Shea for one year at $1M than Feliz for 2 years at $12M. (Years ago Shea played 3B).

Wait until mid-Feb, and offer whichever one isn't signed a whopping $1M.

You know, since our "team" is going to be built around pitching & defense, Pedro makes a lot more sense. Offensively, IMO, Pedro > Shea... and defensively it's no contest. Much as I'm sick of Pedro hacking at slop, he's got great hands, glove & rocket arm. Shea? .....not so much

Let me re-phrase that for Marco:

I'd rather have Hillenbrand for a year and a compensation pick than Feliz at any price and no compensation pick.

Why? So we can grab another pitcher? Joy!

Let's be realistic for a second. Sabean will never, ever, EVER draft a decent power hitter over the age of 20. (had to throw that in for EME) He has also proven inept at trading pitching for decent hitting. The only choice left is to pay for it. If Pedro is our best power threat (which, unfortunately, you could make a good case for), and has a great glove and killer arm, why would you let him go for an inferior player & clubhouse cancer, along with a draft pick?

Don't get me wrong, I can think of about 27 other starting 3B i'd rather have. But that just isn't going to happen this offseason. So what do you do? Throw Shea Can't-Get-A-Hit-or-take-a-walkenbrand in the middle of the order with an absolutely inept lineup?

So let me get this straight... our lineup would have no one capable of hitting 25HR, no real RBI guys, and the left side of our defense would consist of Shea facking Hillenbrand, a 41yr old SS, and Dave Roberts??

Wow. A RH pull-hitter's WET DREAM.

I'd rather have Pedro. We're going to suck offensively no matter what. At least we shouldn't suck defensively too.

Yes, so he can draft another pitcher. Better than not drafting anything.

From all reports, Sabean did well in the last draft when he drafted Bumgardner and Alderson with the Giants first two picks. Yeah, the organization needs position players, and Sabean did go on to draft Noonan and Fairley, but in the draft the team needs to maximize the picks by just taking the best players available at any given time. Beau Mills would have been good but I'll hold off judgement until I can see how well Burgardner does this next year.

The draft is a total c rap shoot.

Just sayin'
